“Life really does begin at forty. Up until then, you are just doing research.” – Carl G Jung

In 2017, our team of passionate and experienced travel consultants are celebrating the 40th anniversary of Angas Travel. We decided to take this opportunity to look back on the last four decades and celebrate.

Established in July 1977, Angas Travel began when Dr Rex Lipman AO purchased an agency in the outer suburbs and moved it into the agency’s former office, located on the corner of Hutt Street and Angas Street in Adelaide’s CBD. Every South Australian would remember this office for its French Style Advertising Column out front of the building.

Back then, airline travel had only just surpassed ships as the dominant mode of transport, Adelaide Airport was only used for domestic flights, and there was little to no security at airports. Airline tickets were handwritten by your travel agent and organising travel was a manual and arduous task.

The company began not only by selling tickets like a traditional travel agency, but also by making suggestions of destinations to visit to their clients based on the experience of the consultants. It was what set them apart from the rest.

Further, Rex’s passion for education led him to send young Australians to Le Cordon Bleu in Paris, as well as to the Paris American Academy, the EuroCentre Language Foundation and the Swiss Hotels Association. Later Rex, in partnership with the South Australian Government, brought these elements together to create the International College of Hotel Management here in Adelaide – all significant achievements for not only Rex and the company, but also for Australia.

Angas Travel assisted the students in their travel to these schools in Europe, and later from around the world to Adelaide. It was here that the strong focus for educational tours was built – and it remains today with hundreds of students travelling overseas for Music, Languages, STEM and more, all thanks to the Angas Travel team.

In 2008, long-time staff members Jackie Male and Kate Collins took over the business as Director of Groups and Director of Independent Travel respectively. After having worked at Angas Travel since the early 1990s, the pair began managing the business under the mentorship of Rex and have transformed the company into the success it is by sharing their love of travel to their clients far and wide.

Today, Angas Travel remains an independently owned travel agency in South Australia – as it has been since inception – and our team of ten are dedicated to showing you a world of difference through their combined 150+ years of experience.

They look after generations of clients from all over the country, including school groups, small to medium businesses, and those looking for a little bit of adventure on boutique escorted voyages or luxury cruises around the world. No trip is too large, small or unusual!
