Discover Europe’s Music Education & Opportunities With Angas Travel

back to blog.

As a leader and specialist in school group tours, Angas Travel is delighted to present a unique opportunity for Music and Choral Directors.

The Music Director Preview Tour is a familiarisation expedition to Europe in January 2018, specifically designed for music teachers, allowing you to discover first-hand the opportunities and experiences available to your students on a European Music Tour.

The tour will feature visits to unique performance venues across Europe, include guided tours of relevant music destinations, meetings with local tour operators and musical organisers and time to explore some of Europe’s most beautiful cities such as Vienna, Budapest, Paris and Rome.

Accompanied by two experienced Music Directors, Mr Roger Hey (Perth Modern School) and Mr David Mowat (Wesley College, Melbourne) there will be opportunities to collaborate with like-minded music educators as you travel, enabling you to return with a clear plan for your own group’s music tour.

On this tour, we will begin by travelling to the beautiful city of Vienna where you will explore magnificent venues for your students to perform in, tour the historic Schonbrunn Palace and attend a classical concert. Next on the itinerary is Bratislava, where we will meet with the organisers of the International Youth Music Festival, before arriving in captivating city of Budapest. Here, we will see more performance venues, gain an understanding of Hungarian music, history and culture during a guided sightseeing tour finish the visit with a dinner cruise on the River Danube.

From there, we split into two groups:

Group A heads to Italy. First stop is Venice, to inspect the accommodation and performance venues available to groups, before continuing south to Tuscany. Overnight accommodation is in the spa town of Montecatini and from here we will visit the wonders of Florence and Lucca and meet with local music organisers to discuss concert possibilities. The last night is in Rome, the eternal city, where there will be time to check out further venues in which your students can perform in and our tour guide will take us around some of the world’s most iconic sites.

Meanwhile, Group B will be travelling to Belgium and France to experience the major sites of the Western Front and learn how these can be incorporated into a poignant music tour. Flying from Vienna into Brussels, the group will be transferred to Ypres, a charming city with a rich and varied history. Here, there will be a guided Battlefields Tour, a visit to In Flanders Fields Museum and attendance at The Last Post ceremony at Menin Gate, something which your group will be able to participate in during their tour. Next, we will move on to the Somme, where there will be a meeting with local musicians and visits to the significant WW1 villages of Fromelles, Villers-Bretonneux, and the elegant city of Amiens with its grand cathedral. The final night of the tour is in Paris, where there will be an inspection of the stunning Madeleine church where your group can perform, and attendance at La Flamme ceremony beneath the Arc de Triomphe, another musical opportunity for your students.

Through our contacts in Europe, we have negotiated the special price of $2500 per person, which includes all flights, accommodation (8 nights, in properties where your group will stay), all transfers, breakfast and dinner daily, bespoke tours and a bi-lingual tour escort AND the tour will qualify for Professional Development recognition. Plus, if you book a school group tour with Angas Travel before 30 June 2018, for 2019 or 2020, for a minimum of 30 students, your participation fee in the Music Director Preview Tour will be returned to you (or rebated to the group tour cost).
